Flatwork & Slabs

Flatwork Concrete & Concrete Slabs

Shed slabs, equipment pads, lanai slabs and general flatwork for Port Charlotte properties.

"Flatwork" is the industry term for horizontal concrete — the slabs and surfaces you walk, drive and build on. It's the foundation of most exterior concrete work, and it's the core of what Port Charlotte Concrete does every day.

We pour concrete slabs and flatwork for homeowners, property owners and businesses in Port Charlotte and surrounding areas including North Port, Punta Gorda, Englewood and Rotonda West. We're licensed and insured, have been in business for ten years, and provide free on-site estimates.

What Goes Into a Good Concrete Slab

A slab is only as good as the ground beneath it. Site preparation — clearing the area, establishing grade and preparing a suitable base — sets up the slab to stay level and supported. In Southwest Florida, sandy soils and heavy seasonal rain make that groundwork especially important.

Forms define the slab's shape and edges. The concrete is placed, leveled and finished, and joints are cut or tooled to control where the slab cracks as it naturally moves. Slope keeps water from sitting on the surface or flowing toward a structure.

Requirements differ by use. A pad for a small shed has different needs from a slab that supports equipment or vehicles, so we size and plan each slab based on what it needs to carry.

Planning a Shed Slab or Equipment Pad

The most useful thing to know before an estimate is what the slab will hold. A shed slab should be sized to the shed you plan to buy or build, with a little thought about where the door opens and how you'll get a mower or wheelbarrow in and out. An equipment pad for an air conditioning unit, generator or pool equipment needs to sit level and in the right spot relative to the equipment and its connections.

Location matters as much as size. Placing a slab in a low area of the yard invites standing water around it after heavy rain, while placing it too close to a fence or property line can make the structure hard to access later. During the free on-site estimate, we'll look at the site with you and talk through where the slab makes the most sense.

Lanai Slabs and Outdoor Living Pads

Lanai slabs form the floor of a covered or screened outdoor area, so they need to be level enough for furniture and sloped enough to keep water moving away from the house. If the lanai is part of a larger backyard plan, the slab can be coordinated with a patio, pool deck or walkway so the outdoor spaces connect cleanly.

Residential and Commercial Flatwork

Flatwork isn't limited to homes. Businesses and commercial property owners need pads, slabs and other flat concrete surfaces too, often with more traffic or heavier use in mind. Whether it's a single pad behind a house or a larger commercial slab, we'll discuss how the concrete will be used so the project is planned around real conditions.

Replacing Old Slabs

When an existing slab is badly cracked, broken or no longer the right size, we can remove the old concrete, haul it away and pour a new one. If the slab has simply settled, lifting and leveling may be an option worth considering first.

Permits & HOA Approvals

Slabs for sheds and other structures may require a permit or HOA approval, depending on the property and community. We can assist with required permitting and HOA approval processes for applicable projects.

When Concrete Needs Attention

Not every project is new construction. If existing slabs, driveways or walkways are cracked, sunken or uneven, our concrete repair, lifting and leveling services may restore them without a full replacement.
